This place was such a treasure to discover! Classic NJ! It was our first time trying Trenton tomato pies and our whole family loved it. Crust was perfectly crispy, sauce was amazing, cheese was just right. The mustard pizza was also delicious!! It feels like you’re stepping back in time inside (in the best way possible!) We will be back! Also, the birch beer was a fun addition!

Having eaten pizza around the world—including Europe, California, New York, and countless places across the United States—I try very hard not to crown any one place as “the best.” If you’ve followed my reviews, you know I judge based on quality, taste, appearance, and the overall experience. I was genuinely looking forward to visiting Papa’s Tomato Pies because of its history and reputation. We ordered two different pies: a half pepperoni/half anchovy pie and a large roasted red pepper pie. Looking at the photos, you’ll see they certainly looked appealing, but unfortunately the taste never matched the anticipation. The crust was thin and crispy, which I enjoyed, but the dough itself lacked much flavor. The sauce, despite being plentiful, tasted fairly ordinary—almost like something straight from a can—with only the faintest hint of salt, pepper, and oregano. Nothing about either pie stood out as exceptional. Overall, I found the pizza to be simply average. The restaurant itself felt worn and dated. I understand and appreciate that the establishment has been around since 1912, and its history is part of its charm, but preserving history doesn’t mean you can’t modernize and spruce

Papas is a pizza institution that I’ve been back to a few times now. They consistently serve up well cooked, fresh pies like clock work. What stands out to me is the rich tomato flavors that highlight the perfect sauce and the crisp crust to finish it off. Amazing place!

When you’re the most tenured individual at what you do, you tend to be pretty good at it, and such is the case for the standard-bearer of the Trenton tomato pie (alongside their neighbor down road, De Lorenzo’s), America’s longest continuously operating and second oldest overall pizzeria, Papa’s tomato pies. Founded originally in Trenton in 1912 before later moving to nearby Robbinsville in 2013, it goes without saying that Papa’s is an absolute titan of Italian American food culinary history, an icon and landmark restaurant of New Jersey and the greater NY/NJ/PA tri-state area, and to this day, still widely considered one of the absolute best pizzerias in America. Today I had the honor and pleasure of grabbing a slice or two at this beyond storied establishment. I ordered two pizzas. The first was their standard setting regular Trenton tomato pie similar to a New York regular cheese pie, half plain and half with basil, was possibly one of the 3 best pizzas I’ve ever had (and better than De Lorenzo’s, which I also thought was great). The slices were cut triangularly and the crust was crispy but pliable and thin but airy like a traditional New York style pie, as opposed to the cra

I thoroughly enjoyed my pizza and we got the wings for the first time. The wings had a very good taste and the sauce on them was just enough! The pizza was delicious I enjoyed the crust and the sauce is sweet! I thought the mustard pie had a nice touch and tasted great! The service was amazing and the waitress was friendly. Love it here!
